FURNISHINGS

Whilst there was an explosion of high quality interior design shops along the Algarve during the early part of the millennium, the likes of IKEA in Lisbon and Seville have provided a source of affordable and stylish furnishings. However, do not discount buying suitable furnishings from your home country and having them delivered to the Algarve. Quite often you will find electrical items, good quality beds, and lounge furnishings are better priced with a wider selection in the UK.

The Golden Triangle, Almancil and furniture showrooms along the EN125 provide a shop window for most types of furnishings. Conforama and Movi Flor supply flatpack furniture and there are many designer soft furnishing outlets. Gato Preto, Casa and Espacio Casa have an interesting selection of ornamental goods and kitchen utensils. The Linen Warehouse in Almancil and Alcantarilha has English bed linens, quality towels and a new range in ready to hang curtains. You can get traditional basket ware and rattan from the Portuguese Warehouses which are on the road from Boliquieme to Loule. Imported Curtain Fabrics are available, along with ready made curtains, Leroy Merlin at Guia and Gato Preto in the Shopping Centres have a good selection. SHOPPING IN THE ALGARVE

There are many hypermarkets and supermarkets in the Algarve stocking a wide range of goods including imported produce. Excellent fresh fruit and vegetables are obtainable from the local Portuguese Markets along with a great selection of locally caught fish. Apolonia in Almancil and Gale pride themselves in their huge variety of stock geared to the expatriate market. More recently we have enjoyed the pleasures of Iceland at Guia who offer a taste of English delights, frozen convenience foods, and those luxuries missed by the expatriate resident! Online shopping is also popular with chains such as Tesco’s, Sainsbury’s and Asda all prepared to deliver to UK transport depot’s for delivery to the Algarve. Direct Transport have weekly deliveries and will bring small boxes to larger containers.

Retail therapy is a must at both the local boutique shops and the Algarve Shopping Centre at Guia, the Forum at Faro and the new shopping complexes at Portimao. Dont miss out exploring the traditional and designer shops in the streets of the local towns and cities, who often have bargains in linens, leather goods and ceramics.
